Freedom Bank of America

Bradenton-based Freedom Bank collapses.

Federal banking officials took over all deposits and assets of Freedom Bank on Friday night after the Florida Office of Financial Regulation ordered the institution’s closing.

State regulators named the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation receiver of Freedom’s assets of $287 million and deposits of $254 million. All of the deposits were to be purchased by Fifth Third Bank of Grand Rapids, Mich., as well as $36 million in assets.
