Plane hits Empire State Building
The Empire State Building was constructed to take the impact of a 10-ton aircraft.
Soon fire companies got the blaze under control and were able to extinguish it without any further calamities occurring.
The accident happened in 1945. The Empire State Building still exists.

Investigation showed that the structural integrity of the Empire State Building was not compromised by this accident, but the cost to repair the damage was on the order of a million dollars.

Reports say that it took three months to repair the 78th and 79th floors, both of which were damaged. Crews had to repair bent girders, seal the walls, and restore the two floors of offices.
Today, the building remains structurally sound, say reports.

Luckily, the accident occurred on a weekend (Saturday), with only about 1,500 people in the building -- compared with the 10,000-15,000 on an average weekday. Still, 14 died in the accident -- 11 in the building, plus Colonel Smith and the other two occupants of the plane.
